Beauty trends from New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week closed with the Thom Browne show and Steven Kolb's career at the CFDA. TikTok and general internet darling artist Slayyter performed for Tommy Hilfiger, Alexa Chung was draped in a buttery yellow silky fur moment at Connor Ives and Jimmy Choo's SS27 party and based king Marc Jacobs was photographed with real life Sofia Coppola-written character Romy Mars (wink wink) at a party for his recently re-launched beauty brand.
As the industry turns it's eyes across the pond to see what London fashion week has in store, we wanted to look back on some of the beauty trends that graced the runways of the city that never sleeps this September.
Crimped Hair at Cristian Sirano and Area
There were two distinct crimps taking place at both of these shows. The first being the "enchanted crimp" bought to Cristian Siriano with seemingly military precision by Lacy Redway. The result was a straight-lined disruption to the dreaminess of Siriano's runway and added a modern yet nostalgic Y2K look to may have only been a fairytale Marie Antoinette inspired runway without it.
The second crimp by Joey George at Area was more strategic, used to emphasise the already genetically blessed bone structures of the models, framing their faces like a halo on the chin.
Messy Hair
Everyone is talking about low ponies but I'm over here talking about messy loose hair since I saw Kaia Gerber open for Khaite. And after I clocked it I couldn't unsee it the whole week, from DVF to Eckhaus Latta and culminating in that 7 For All Mankind show in which for the second season in a row they leaned heavily on the Y2K downtown Kate Moss skinny scarf look.
Natural based cosmetics on the runway there were not
Naked and natural looks were heralded - see the nail beds at the shows of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger by queen Jin Soo, however there was not much hype around the plant based beauty industry this year. Notable mention includes Francelle Daly at Collina Strada who used a MARA Pearl Peptide Glaze that includes algae to create a “'fairy-tale indie sleaze vibe' to glass skin."
Pink pink pink pink blush and eyes?
The yellow eyeshadow at Proenza is getting a big shout out but I could not look past the daintily dusted pink eyes at Area. Or the peachy blush for the opening look at Connor Ives set off against the pale turquoise of the dress.
